Keith Martell

Chair, Appointed by the Government

Dr. Keith Martell, Director was first appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council to the Board of Governors on June 23, 2020. He retired as the President and Chief Executive Officer and a Director of First Nations Bank of Canada in May 2023 after serving for over 26 years since the creation of the Bank . Dr. Martell graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1985 with a Bachelor of Commerce and received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the same institution in 2016. Before his career at the First Nations Bank he spent 10 years with the Chartered Accounting firm KPMG and he also served the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (“FSIN”) as the Executive Director of Finance and Fiscal Relations from 1995 to 2000. He is a Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant (FCPA, FCA) and a Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager (CAFM). Dr. Martell is a Director of Nutrien Ltd. and TD Bank.
