Role

The Governance Office is a key link between the executive leadership and governance of the university, facilitating the activities of the Board of Governors, Senate, General Academic Assembly and University Council.

Responsibilities

The office is also responsible for:

  • Governance
    • Interpretation of institutional bylaws and policies
    • Secretariat for Council, Senate, Board, General Academic Assembly and their committees
    • Secretariat for faculty appeal boards and for student discipline and appeal boards
  • Protocol and Ceremonies (eg. Convocation)

Julian Demkiw

Julian Demkiw is the University Secretary and Chief Governance Officer at the University of Saskatchewan. He has 20 years’ experience working in post-secondary education and has worked as a lecturer, fundraiser, alumni relations specialist, student services officer, and most recently as Chief of Staff to three university presidents. Julian is a lifelong student having achieved degrees in engineering, humanities, and social sciences.

Most notably, Julian has a Ph.D. with his areas of research focusing on university leadership and governance and the relationship between university presidents and university boards. In his spare time Julian is involved in his community as a member of the Meewasin Valley Authority board of directors and the board of Leadership Saskatoon.
